Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club Revett Series - Week 2

by Mike Baldwin 24 Nov 2010 18:11 GMT 21 November 2010

Despite lower numbers last week due to the Laser Inlands taking place and a poor weather forecast, week 2 of the Revett Series at Leigh & Lowton SC showed a return to the popularity of the winter sailing series at the club. The wind was a chilly breeze from the North making course setting challenging for the OD but until late on in the afternoon the wind decided to play ball. With 60 boats out on the water, the racing showed some tight contests in all the fleets.

Last week’s winners of both races in the Asymmetric fleet Caroline Exley and Jude Allen weren’t sailing this weekend so the lads took it in turns to win races with the top three places being contested by the combinations of Dave Exley/Nigel Hall, Hamish Gledhill/Simon Dowse and Martin Parker/Liam Parker. Currently, due to better discards, the Parkers are leading the table with Cathy Partington/Louise McKeand in their RS200 sitting in second place.

The Laser fleet showed a much improved turnout from the 6 boats of last week with 15 out on the water with last weeks leader Graham Mitchell finding that the youngsters in the class were there, determined to be at the front. In race 1, Andy Green showed the fleet the way to win followed by Chris Wheeler and Tom Cornthwaite with Graham having to be content with fourth place. Graham then showed in race 2 that he wasn’t going to take this lightly and pushed Andy into second place with Chris and Tom following in third and fourth. Graham currently holds on to the top position and Tom and Andy are away training this coming weekend (giving us adults a chance again) - but they’ll be back.

The Handicap fleet also showed a big increase in numbers with 27 boats out on the water. The Gillard family who were not here for the first week showed that they really mean business with two firsts for Tom in his Streaker and two seconds for Chris in the Solo. The Allen brothers in their RS300’s led the fleets around the course in both races with Mike being first boat across the line in race 1 and Paul in race 2 but their leads were only enough to give Mike 3rd in race 1and Paul 7th in race 2. The current overall leader is Alex Morrison in his Phantom.

The Revett series continues until December 12th with race fees payable either by the day or for the series. For more information visit www.llsc.org.uk
