Laser Lakeland Grand Prix at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club

by Jonathan Nicoll 13 Jun 2010 14:17 BST 12 June 2010

Twenty Lasers entered the third round of the UKLA/Rooster sponsored Lakeland Laser Grand Prix held at Derwent Reservoir on June 12th. After a short delay while the wind swung around by about 90 degrees under some big high clouds Race Officer Keith Robson set a simple triangle course in Derwent's big area of open water.

In a wind that was light and still quite shifty last year's series winner Simon Wilson won the first race from Dan Trotter and Stuart Belfield. Simon also led for much of the second race before being pipped by Dan right on the line. Ullswater's mark Simpson was 3rd.

For the third race the wind increased significantly and this time Dan looked unstoppable, leading from the start and never really being threatened. Charles Bragg of the home club was 2nd with Stuart again 3rd.

The next event is at Ullswater on July 17th.

Overall Results:

1st & 1st Youth, Dan Trotter (Derwent Reservoir S.C.)
2nd & 1st Master, Simon Wilson (Kielder Water S.C.)
3rd Stuart Belfield (Leigh & Lowton S.C.)
1st Lady & 1st Radial, Helen Armstrong (Derwent Reservoir S.C.)
1st Junior, Connor Graham (South Shields S.C.)
