Supernova Open at Severn Sailing Club

by Stephen Hawley 10 Apr 2010 21:49 BST 10 April 2010

The sun was out and the day was set to be perfect, unless you were going sailing as the wind was light and changing direction making very challenging conditions for all.

Race 1

The fleet gathered at the windward side of the line, Steve Hawley saw an opportunity to make an advantage but was OC.S Richard Pakes and Chris Hawley broke away with Tim Lemare leading the chasing pack. Pakes and C Hawley swapped places a few times, but it was Pakes that took line honours. S Hawley fought back and stole 3rd from Le Mare on the finish line.

Race 2

With what little wind there was dying away 4 boats were unable cross the line to start leaving Pakes and Le Mare to get away. The wind filled in bring the tail enders into the rest of the fleet. Le Mare got away but Pakes managed to recover and retook the lead. The battle was for 3rd place but with the fleet closing all the time Alan Utteridge managed to hold onto 3rd followed by C Hawley, S Hawley and Grant Brown.

Race 3

To make a change no boats were OCS. Brown got the best start just ahead of S Hawley and took full advantage making good use of a little gust sailed away from the rest of the fleet and was never seen again. Errr no I mean was uncontested and took 1st place. Le Mare worked hard to get to 2nd where he stayed until the end, this was followed by Pakes, S Hawley and Sam Hood who found some late speed to take C Hawley.

Overall Results:

1st Richard Pakes (Haversham SC) 2pts
2nd Tim Le Mare (Henley SC) 4pts
3rd Grant Brown (Severn SC) 6pts
4th Chris Hawley (Severn SC) 6pts
