ARG Champion, GBR Runners-Up
Day 6 of the Cadet World Championships dawned with torrential rain in Buenos Aires. However, the weather gods were favourable as the sun emerged at launch time with 15 knots of breeze blowing in from the east.
The lumpy sea provided exciting racing for the fleet and it was ARG 9476 (Gonzalo Nandin & Julian Rodriguez Viegas) who led around the first windward mark and all the way to the finish. The racing was to be as close as ever in the high quality fleet and it was GBR 5000 (Sophie Dingwall and Chris Sycamore) who emerged down the reaches into 2nd place and BEL 9739 (Tom Alleman and Jens Vancraenenbroeck) into 3rd.
The battle for the title was on and ARG 8023 (Clara Cosentino and Cristobal Billoch) moved through to 5th place to secure the World Championship with a race to spare. Will Kennedy & Rhos Hawes in GRR 8539 finished 6th in this race with Chris Brewer & Ole Alcock (GBR 8997) 9th.
The final race of the championship was more challenging as the wind first eased to under 5 knots and then swung by up to 50-60 degrees on the course. AUS 4887 (Alec & Samantha Bailey) mastered these conditions to take 1st ahead of fellow countrymen AUS 4109 (Ian lee & Alex Brzoska). GBR 8997 (Chris Brewer & Ole Alcock) secured a hard fought 3rd place to finish as runners-up in the World Championship ahead of the Baileys in 3rd overall.
The International Cadet Class have crowned very worthy new World Champions in Clara Cosentino & Cristobal Balloch. In the 12 race series they counted 10 top 5 results and demonstrated the consistency necessary in the varied conditions of the River Plate. This was a regatta run in a very friendly atmosphere by the host club, Yacht Club Argentino and thanks go all involved in the organisation and running of the event.

Cadet Week at Waldringfield Sailing Club - 02 Sep 2010Despite highly challenging conditions, 14 year old Annie Knott, from Boxford, has become the first girl to win Waldringfield Sailing Club’s annual junior regatta since 1966.
In the closest of finishes, Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock (Royal Lymington/Frensham Pond) sailing 9243 Blue String Pudding are the 2010 UK National Cadet Class champions.
With one race to go, the result of this year’s Cadet Nationals is still in the balance. Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock in 9243 Blue String Pudding, who have led the event since Race 3, now stand on 28 points, 11 ahead of both Ben Binmore & Martha Jones.
Wednesday produced the toughest conditions so far this week with bands of rain and a strong, biting wind, which made the final stages of the day’s only scheduled race particularly challenging.
A further two races were completed on Tuesday, with the first discard kicking in. Race 5 was delayed to allow the wind to fill in. Race 6 was away at the second attempt.
