Stokes Bay Sailing Club Pursuit Race

by Stokes Bay Sailing Club 14 Jun 2000 16:01 BST

LDC, SailSail.Com, Musto, O'Neill, Optimum Time, Henri Lloyd, and Holt were the sponsors of the Stokes Bay Sailing Club 'Pursuit Race' on Sunday 11th June. The 16 mile course, that takes competitors around a large part of the Solent, attracted 65 boats.

Conditions at the start were ideal with a lonely Solo, helmed by Stokes Bay's Trevor Ventham, being the first boat to start. The breeze continued to build throughout the morning and by the time the catamarans started it was a steady 16 knots, providing excellent sailing for everybody.

The overall winner was Nick Harrison (Stokes Bay SC) in a Laser, comfortably beating the 49er pairing of Geoff Carveth and Peter Greenhalgh (Hayling Island SC). Third place went to the current Shearwater National Champion, Mark Norman (Stokes Bay SC) crewed by his daughter Erika. The first lady home was Laura Baldwin (Stokes Bay SC) in a Laser Radial and the first under 18 was Tim Pearse (Stokes Bay SC) also in a Laser.
