30-31 May 2009
The second event of the 2009 series took place at Grafham Water SC over the weekend 30/31 May and attracted an entry of 51. The fleet was split into standard and radial, each with their own start.
With a forecast for sun and wind it promised to be a good weekend. This turned out to be the case with an easterly F2 - 4 on Saturday, averaging F3 and the same on Sunday but from the north and building during the day to the higher end of F4 enabling the full six races to be sailed. Picking the shifts on the first beat turned to be crucial and those who got them wrong found it difficult to recover even in the reasonably strong wind and relatively broad reaches.
In the standard fleet Steve Cockerill scored a total of 8 points from Alan Davis’ 14 and Andy Le Grice’s 23 points to win overall while in the radial fleet Ian Gregory finished on 9 points from Richard Major’s 10 and John Reay’s 12 points to take first place.
