As well as exhibiting dinghies at the forefront of new technology and design, this year’s RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2009 in association with Yachts and Yachting and Suzuki, will also boast some of the sailing world’s most elegant classics for you to feast your eyes upon.
Some of the earliest built International 14 dinghies will be on display
(west corridor) in a unique chronological display of the classes design
over the last 10 decades. The class association will be on hand (stand
B44) to fill you in on their history as well as offer advice on how to
get involved in their events.
In celebration of the Dragon Classes 80th anniversary the British Dragon
Association will be making their show debut this year, bringing with
them a beautifully crafted brand new Petticrow Dragon – a real treat for
visitors to enjoy. Having been an Olympic Class for over 30 years
between 1948 and 1972 the 30ft Dragon keelboat has a huge following,
find out more on their stand (D4).
See for yourself the craftsmanship that goes into building a handcrafted
classic dinghy on the Redwing Dinghy Class Association stand (F28) by
dropping into one of their live demonstrations from the Good Wood Boat
Company at 11:00am and 3:00pm each day of the show. The most recent
National Redwing will continue to be built between demonstrations on the
stand throughout the show ready to compete at the Nationals in the Isles
of Scily in August.
Other classic boats at the show include the National Squib, Merlin
Rocket, National 12 and the Mirror dinghy.
