RS200 Open at Wembley Sailing Club

23 boats arrived at Wembley SC on Sunday 12th October for a SEAS open meeting. They were met with blazing, warm sunshine, but not a breathe of wind! However, after some bacon butty eating and a little bantering, a light southerly filled in and the fleet launched.

On a short course, 2 brisk races were held. I Mairs/T Watson led for the majority of race one, only to be overtaken on the last lap by a charging Steve Janering/Lottie Wakeling. Steve & Judy Restall made up the top three. The Restall’s went two places better in the 2nd race however, leading from start to finish. Behind, there wasn’t much changing of positions on a fairly processional course. S Greaves/S Bickford scored a solid 2nd, with Gun Gillow/Adam ‘The Cat’ Page in 3rd.

For race three, the breeze had shifted to the southwest, as well as strengthening, to allow a little hiking on the beat! Rob Janering/Marianthe Evangeledis showed their Inland Champs form to win comfortably after a tough first lap tussle with Julian Bradley/Paul Hayes, who ended 2nd. S Janering/Wakeling rounded out a WSC 1,2,3.

The final race saw a number of the top contenders black flagged, which left the way clear for top youth team Andrew & Ian Gill to lead for 90% of the final race – until S Janering/Wakeling again gained the lead at the death. Mike Chapman/Lynne Ratcliffe finished 3rd.

Overall, Janering/Wakeling were comfortable winners with the Restall’s 2nd and Nick Charles/Fiona Hall 3rd.
