24 hours for Sail 4 Cancer

by Speed Sails 14 Sep 2007 08:16 BST 15-16 September 2007

This weekend Adam McGovern and Chris Robinson are attempting to sail the entire Southport 24hr race non-stop. Most teams consist of around 12 sailors breaking the time down into 2 hour stints but Adam and Chris will be attempting the same challenge without any change over, rest breaks or toilet stops and all in the name of charity.

Sponsorship, if the pair completes the challenge, has already topped the £1000 mark but they are confident of raising even more, all of which will be donated to Sail for Cancer. With extra bonuses promised depending on their performance in the famous endurance race they have plenty of incentive to keep going although weather forecasts for the weekend show the wind strength to be building making the challenge look increasingly difficult.

Both sailors are experienced GP14 sailors but with up to 100 boats on the confined waters of Southport Marine Lake and the issue of night sailing to contend with their concentration levels will be stretched to (but hopefully not past) breaking point.

To sponsor Adam and Chris please call 07921 381576, e-mail adam.mcgovern@rochdale.gov.uk or look for their support crew at the event. More details are also available online at www.sail4cancer.com
