31 March - 1 April 2007
The end of March signalled event 2 on the TASA calendar for the year, this time held at Datchet Water. Saturday looked to be a gusty morning with international 14 GBR 1356 Benson/Shaw being the first to venture out for training. As the wind picked up it soon became evident by the white horses that instead of training the boats would be practicing survival!
Sunday was race day with 19 boats venturing onto the water for the first race. Race 1 was a close battle between Boss 762 Swain/Miller and RS800 1050 Hilton/Unknown with Swain and Miller just beating them to it. With only 7 finishing the first race and the leaders heading in, race two, and the TASA trophies were up for grabs. With the winds picking up it was perhaps a bit too much, but 4 boats stayed for the second race to battle it out. The RS800 pulled off a convincing 1st place but with a combined 4th in the race one and 2nd in the race two it was ISO 1013 Lindley/Smith that pulled into second place overall.
Racing was soon called off due to the strong winds, much to the relief of the surviving fleet out there. Boats were packed up and beer was drunk after a great fun, but exhausting weekend at Datchet Water.
We here at TASA would also like to thank everyone who came, Datchet for letting us use their venue, and our sponsors Magic Marine for their invaluable support.
