Dart 16 TT at Worthing Sailing Club

by Ben Daigneault 24 Jul 2002 10:49 BST

The third Dart 16 TT event took place on the 20th and 21st July at Worthing SC. in force 1- 4 changeable winds but brilliant sunshine.

The 3 races on Saturday saw the best wind conditions. Race 1 was led all the way by Ben Daigneault 7 Joey Eastes from Eastbourne, only to lose it at the finish, by not going the right way. They had to settle for 2nd spot behind Mike Ager & Chris Brook from Thames Estuary.

Race 2 was won by Mike & Chris followed by Ben & Joey and with Roger Sinnhuber & Jane Robinson from Sussex Motor YC in 3rd.

Race 3 was again a Mike & Chris benefit, but this time Roger & Jane beat Ben & Joey for 2nd spot.

Saturday Night's entertainment at the Club was provided by the band "Mad Max".

Sunday brought lighter winds, but with Mike & Chris wrapping up the event with 2 more wins. Race 4 saw new 2nd placer's in Nick & Tom Hart from Eastbourne, Roger & Jane finished in 3rd. Race 5 and the wind became lighter, which was just as well for Ben & Joey, as the broke a trapese wire. This time places were swapped by Roger & Jane and Nick & Tom.

Having left the rest of the fleet to fight it out in the 6th race and also let a new face take first spot, Mike & Chris sailed ashore for an early bath only to lose their rig as the approached the shore! Nick & Tom stormed round to take 1st spot.

Jim Cartridge & Alex Flay from Hastings took 2nd and Neil Sambell & Jason Wheeler from Worthing took 3rd.

A very good weekend was had by all - some new faces starting to make their mark in the fleet. Special congratulations also go to Tom Hart as he has only just turned 9 !
