Swallows at Skandia Life Cowes Week

by Jeremy Buckwell 14 Aug 2001 13:04 BST

A breezy Cowes Week. Exciting, exhausting, exhilirating, and enjoyable. 12 boats entered but only 10 started. A new Swallow is being built by Harley Racing Yachts so at least one more next year.

Skua (Archie Massey & Douglas Pattison) was the star performer winning every race and mostly by a large margin. It was fit and proper that Archie Massey was awarded the Skandia Life Young Skipper's Trophy. He, Douglas Pattison and their crew George Nurton are to be congratulated on a memorable achievement.

Serenade (Mr & Mrs Kemlo) and Archon (Professor Green) battled it out for second place with Serenade winning after discarding a retirement caused by a broken main halyard and in spite of Archon being helmed for the first three days by Andy Green the current GBR Challenge helm. Svala (John Wyllie, John Marsh, Phillip Lancashire and Karen Bernays) and Boomerang (Mr & Mrs Buckwell) contested fourth place with Svala being the victor in the last race.
