This Friday, 7 November, at 12.55 pm local time (5.55 pm in Paris), Sam Goodchild and Loïs Berrehar crossed the finish line of the IMOCA class in third place in Fort-de-France Bay, during the 17th edition of the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR Le Havre Normandie.
Their race time is 12 days, 3 hours, 25 minutes, and 47 seconds.
Sam Goodchild and Loïs Berrehar covered the 4 285 miles of the course between Le Havre and Fort-de-France at a speed of 14,7 knots on the great circle route (direct course). They actually sailed 5 579,74 miles at an average speed of 19,5 knots (over the water).
Sam Goodchild and Loïs Berrehar share several traits in common: both are reserved, reluctant to seek the spotlight ashore, yet tough as nails and brilliant racers at sea. Aboard the boat with which Charlie Dalin won the Vendée Globe, they claimed victory in the Course des Caps before joining different teams for The Ocean Race — Biotherm for Sam, Malizia for Loïs.At the start of the Transat Café L’Or, they had to contend with the revelations about Charlie Dalin’s health and the weight of their status as favourites. That didn’t stop them from making a flying start and leading the fleet across the Bay of Biscay. Constantly among the frontrunners, they were slightly outpaced by Charal when turning towards the Caribbean. While second place seemed within reach, they were overtaken in the final hours of the race by the impressive 11th Hour Racing duo.Nevertheless, Sam and Loïs delivered a tremendous performance aboard a boat they only took charge of this year, further cementing their standing among the elite of the IMOCA class.
