by David Eberlin 27 Oct 2025 11:29 GMT 25 October 2025

The Notts County Solo Open attracted 18 entries from both the home club and many visitors, including from Hickling, South Staffs, Northampton, Shurestoke and Chase.

Race officer Rebecca Ogden aided by an all women team managed to fire the warning signal at 11am in spite of a last minute wind shift. The wind shifted all day and was a light to moderate breeze, if slightly cool. There was even some sunshine.

The second race was held back to back, with a third race after lunch, when the wind increased to give some great planning reaches.

The highly competitive meeting saw a different winner in each race and some close racing throughout the flee, only 5 points separating the top 5 overall.

The first race saw Olly Saunders from Shurestoke win after a close battle, first with Jake Willars from Notts county then Jonathan Swain from Carsington. The next race saw Chris White from, South Staffs win with Jake Willars second, and Richard Instone third.

So it was all down to the final race, constancy was the name of the game and Jake Willars, sponsored by Dynamic Boats, win in the final race gave him a 2 point lead overall, with Richard Instone second in the final race giving him second overall.

Brian Fisher, from Notts County, a great grand master won the Endeavour trophy finishing all three races.
