From 6 to 13 July 2025, the 2025 Moth World Championship officially gets under way, hosted by Fraglia Vela Malcesine and preceded by the Pre-Worlds on 4 and 5 July. The event marks the culmination of three weeks entirely dedicated to foiling, beginning with the Foiling Week - now in its twelfth edition, held once again in Malcesine - and continuing with the Foiling Sport Congress, a gathering of technicians and industry professionals that outlined the future direction of high-performance sailing. A unique blend of innovation, performance, and vision that has transformed the Veronese side of Lake Garda into the beating heart of foiling.
Fraglia Vela Malcesine confirms its status as one of the world's leading hubs for foiling - an international reference point that, year after year, attracts the top sailors on the planet. Many athletes choose to train here for extended periods, turning the town and surrounding area into a true advanced training and development center. The Municipality of Malcesine has strongly supported the event's organization, enabling the warm welcome of athletes from all over the world — also thanks to the collaboration with local hospitality and tourism partners.
The Moth Class returns to Malcesine for the third time to host its most prestigious event, following the highly successful editions in 2017 and 2021. The Pre-Worlds will welcome 110 sailors from 22 nations, while the World Championship will feature 145 athletes representing 23 countries, making this one of the most competitive regattas of the season.
Among the top names competing are Olympic gold medallists such as Tom Slingsby (AUS) and Paul Goodison (GBR) - both former helmsmen for American Magic in the America's Cup - Diego Botin (ESP), as well as Giles Scott and Dylan Fletcher, who have dominated Olympic sailing over the past decade. Also racing are notable figures like Simone Salvà, coach of SailGP Spain and the Luna Rossa Youth & Women's program, Philipp Buhl (GER), Sime and Mihovil Fantela (CRO), Sébastien Schneiter (SUI), and rising stars in the foiling scene such as Enzo Balanger (FRA), Mattias Coutts and Jacob Pye (NZL), Nicolai Jacobsen (NOR), and Richard Schultheis (GER).
This event combines sporting excellence with the beauty of the region, providing a unique international showcase for Malcesine and the entire Lake Garda area. It's the result of strong organizational vision, institutional support, and the presence of some of the most important figures in global sailing.
