Enterprise Open at Tamworth Sailing Club

by Paul Young & Paul Burgoine 5 Jun 14:52 BST 17 May 2025

The second round of the Midland Area Enterprise Double Chine Series took place at Tamworth on Saturday the 17th of May 2025. A blissful day with sunshine with a light breeze.

In the first race, the boats were all very close up in the first beat. Paul and Ria Burgoine lead at the first mark, from Nigel Also and Kate Brazier followed closely from Martin Davies and Lillyana Forbes. It was a fierce battle for first place between the first two boats, for the first few laps. Nigel and Kate started the last leg in the lead, but Paul and Ria passed them to claim victory. Paul Young and Rachel Forbes were third.

After a splendid lunch the second race began on a slightly adjusted course. With some large wind shifts on the first beat, Paul and Ria got stuck in a bend on the right-hand side of the first course. Nigel and Kate rounded the windward mark first. With Martin and Lilly second followed closely by Paul and Rachel. Nigel and Kate established a significant lead which they held to the finish. Martin and Lilly, Paul and Ria as well as Paul and Rachel had close racing behind for the next few laps, however at the finish line Martin with Lilly came second, Paul and Ria came third, with Paul and Rachel coming fourth.

With the result of the meeting still to be decided, the third and final race was started on a new course. A very close start and first beat saw all boats very close together. However, Nigel and Kate rounded first with Paul and Ria second followed by Paul and Rachel.

There was couple of changes between the first two boats on the first lap, but then Paul and Ria established a comfortable lead which they held to the finish winning the meeting.

On an exciting last downwind leg Martin and Lilly overtook Nigel and Kate to gain second place just before the finish line gaining second place securing third place overall.

Winning helmsman Paul Burgoine thanked everyone who helped out at Tamworth Sailing club for a good day's racing.
