XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week 2024 - Overall

by Rory Paton 2 Aug 2024 21:24 BST 27 July - 2 August 2024

Going in to the final day of the Captain's Cup it was all to play for with the top 3 boats separated only by 3 points.

With a strong ebb tide, fresh SW breeze and a big course it was almost inevitable that we would have a general recall and so it proved. Once away there were still a couple of OCS boats but early leaders were X Ray, Astralita, Swallow and Mayfly.

On the 4 nautical mile beat to MDL Marina Astralita gradually established a lead and managed to pull away from the fleet.

The long run against the tide was fairly fraught as the fleet edged around the Island shore. Gradually Swallow made her way up the fleet to hold second ahead of X-Ray and Xcitation.

Overall it was close but Astralita won another Cowes Week including four wins from a very consistent Swallow and Xcitation. Cowes Week have really worked hard to make this a world class regatta for us, the competition has been as ferocious as ever but also a lot of fun. Special mention today goes to Graham Knowles who has competed in every Cowes Week in X74 Fiona since 1968.
