In 2024, the South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club marks a significant milestone - a century of seafaring legacy. Focusing on our rich heritage, the centenary is characterised by a number of signature activities, with the Edinburgh Cup, Dinghy Week, Mirror Week and Keelboat Week to name but a few.

Abersoch has long been a renowned venue for many National and International regattas over the years. Fleets are attracted by the easy tides, sandy beach, newly refurbished iconic club house and perhaps some of the best sailing waters in the UK.

In 2024 we will be holding several regattas to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club but perhaps one of the most popular open weeks is Abersoch Dinghy Week, from Sunday 21st July to Friday 26th July, which this year will be the 52nd year that the event has been held.

After a couple of years racing off shore on windward/leeward courses we are reverting to a classic dinghy week format with racing from a Club line start. Great for spectators and sailors with races starting no more than a few hundred yards from the beach.

There will be morning fleets and afternoon fleets with the Juniors and Single handers in the morning and the Double handed fleets in the afternoon.

We expect class starts for Lasers, Solos, Phantoms, Single handed mixed and finally the Intermediate/Junior fleets.

Afternoon racing for Assymetrics RS200/400/500 etc. Fast Symmetrics Fireball/Merlins etc. Slow Symmetrics Lark,Gp14, Albacore, Snipe, Enterprise etc etc.

Final fleet splits will be decided on Saturday 20/7 by the race team.

The programme is not yet finalised but is likely to be as follows:

Sunday 21st July
Morning races to start at 11.00 with one race scheduled for each class.
Afternoon races to start at 14.00 one race scheduled for each class.

Monday 22nd July - Thursday 25th July
Morning races start 10.30 Two races per fleet start each day.
Afternoon races start 14.00 Two races per fleet start each day.

Friday 26th July
100th Anniversary Race Special Trophy races.
Morning 11.00 start for all morning fleets; mass start.
Afternoon 14.00 start for all afternoon fleets; mass start.

We hope to provide a varied programme of racing with a full social programme that will include the ever popular Thursday party night and themed dinners in the Cove restaurant.

For the juniors not feeling confident enough to race on the main course we will be holding an inshore training regatta fleet for novice racers.

Full details to follow with the NoR and entry forms that will be available late February.

Please join us for a promising calendar brimming with fun and sailing activities.
