Day 2 of the 29er Typhoon Nationals hosted by WPNSA was extraordinary, filled with exhilarating races, challenging weather conditions, and marine encounters.

Having abandoned day 1 due to high winds the 180 sailors from 14 countries enthusiastically gathered looking forward to fierce competition completing four thrilling races with winds gusting up to an impressive 31 knots.

As the first race kicked off, the sailors immediately faced the intense winds that demanded precise manoeuvring and quick decision-making. The challenging conditions separated the experienced sailors from the rest, setting the tone for an action-packed day on the water. Each race brought new twists and turns as the wind direction shifted left throughout the day, altering the dynamics of the racing course and posing a strategic challenge to the competitors.

The left side of the track gradually emerged as the favoured path as the day progressed, making it critical for the sailors to adapt their tactics accordingly. With their skills and instincts honed, the competitors navigated the waves and gusts with determination, chasing down the strongest gusts to gain a competitive edge downwind.

Amidst the intense competition, a pod of playful dolphins decided to join in on the racing action, swimming alongside the the 29er fleet, seemingly enjoying the races too!

While the sailors were fully engaged in the races, the parents and supporters of the participants enjoyed a coffee morning, sponsored by local business Shock Sailing. The coffee morning provided a perfect opportunity for the parents and supporters to come together, share stories, and encourage those new to the fleet to join the committee!

Overnight leaders - Crossley/Jones, displayed an impressive performance, counting only first-place finishes. Their consistent dominance over the day's races earned them a well-deserved position at the top of the leaderboard.
