RS Feva SBS Trailers Midland Traveller at South Staffordshire Sailing Club

by Andy Hateley 13 Oct 2022 08:55 BST 8 October 2022

Sprint races served up seriously close Feva racing!

Soothing warm autumn sunshine broke through the chilly morning air as a gentle south westerly breeze greeted the sailors and parents last Saturday, as South Staffordshire Sailing Club hosted their very first RS Feva event sponsored by SBS Trailers.

Following a quick sailor vote at the briefing the race format was tweaked on the day to offer the sailors the fun frenetic format of sprint races! With the breeze set to veer west and drop as the day went on, the morning session before launch was crucial to get some quality racing in.

The upwind / downwind course with gate offered the sailors extremely close tactical racing. With plenty of gusts and wind shifts to play with, there were quick gains to be had and losses to avoid over the tight racecourse, keeping your eyes out of the boat was key to success for the day!

With a quick a race turnaround sailors’ focus had to quickly turn to the next race start, and after the first 5 races there were already 3 different race winners, so it was still all to play for after lunch!

True to forecast the wind slowly eased allowing just 3 more races in the afternoon before finally switching off completely. Yet with 8 fantastic races already completed, a 2nd discard now in play and following a dominant afternoon performance winning 2 more races Imogen Green & Felicity Angell from Draycote Water SC were worthy winners!

Thanks must go to all South Staffordshire Sailing Club | Facebook and its brilliant team of volunteers for a great day and to sponsors SBS Trailers SBS LTD | Facebook who had kindly donated prizes including, spot prize draws of family tickets to the Boat Show in Birmingham next year, along with prizes for sailors helming or crewing in their first Feva event too.

The sprint racing proved a huge success and popular format by new and experienced racers alike, with 4 different race winners proving how close the racing was with plenty of action to keep the sailors active and parents entertained.

We hope to see more RS Feva sailors, both new and current joining in the fun with the Midland Traveller events next year, building on the opportunity that in 2023 many RS Feva events are being held across the Midlands central belt and Northwest, and the National Championships being hosted at fabulous Pwllheli, North Wales. So, if you’re looking for some Feva training - South Staffs SC are delighted to be welcoming the RS Feva Class for Open training on Saturday 26th November 2022, coaching on the day by the excellent Tim Rush enter here EVENTS - UK RS Feva Class Association
