Winter Junior Race Training at Starcross Yacht Club

by Peter Solly 15 Nov 2021 14:42 GMT 13 November 2021

Saturday saw 21 keen junior sailors on the water at Starcross Yacht Club for the first of eleven Winter Junior Race Training sessions. Lead by RYA coaches Stuart Jones and Izzy Cramp supported by a team of SYC's own RYA level 2 Race Coaches, two groups of young sailors spent a full day on the water.

The sailors came from various clubs in the south west, and were split into two groups based on their racing experience. The experienced group sailed Toppers and Teras, while the less experienced group were in a range of classes.

With the sun breaking through a few times, both groups focussed on mark rounding techniques, boatspeed and sail control, along with some follow-my-leader.

Particular thanks to all of the coaches, as well as the parent helpers on shore and on the water, and to SYC for hosting.

Training opportunities are listed at www.starcrossyc.org.uk
