Darren Tuff, Barton Marine's resident long distance runner has successfully completed the London Marathon dressed as a Barton Block, whilst achieving a great time of 04:43:27. His valiant efforts have raised £1745 to date for Wednesday Junior Sailing, who help as many children as possible get out onto the water for a mere £1.
Marathon day in London was mostly bright and sunny, but with a stiff breeze blowing along the embankment creating the considerable challenge of extra drag over the final six miles. A sharp rain shower in the final stages of Darren's run increased the discomfort factor even further. Block costumes are not quite as waterproof and sleek as the real thing!
Suzanne Blaustone, Barton CEO said, "It is hard enough to run the Marathon in normal running gear, so it is awesome that Darren agreed to run as a block on behalf of Wednesday Junior Sailing. We salute his excellent performance and are so grateful to everyone who donated on our just giving page to help inspire him round the course."
Wednesday Junior Sailing is run by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, UK to help all children experience the fun of getting out onto the water to learn sailing, rowing and basic seamanship skills. Many of them discover a life-long passion for sailing through it and the scheme has even helped some of our great Olympians on their journeys to success.
It is not too late to donate to our Just Giving fundraising page and help the next generation of boaters find a love of the water. Just follow this link. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/barton-wjs Thanks to everyone for your support.
