The final 707 event of the year, Scottish Championships, took place on 20th and 21st October at Port Edgar Yacht Club. Although the conditions had a distinctly Autumnal feel, the wind was consistent allowing for the target seven races to be sailed over the event. To have fifteen boats out racing in mid-October was wonderful to see.

Event winners SeaWord put in a fantastic performance in securing a clean sweep of firsts – rarely do you see such dominance in a one design class. The racing behind was tight as always, with boats pushing SeaWord hard and keeping them honest. Several boats secured second place finishes – CHRU, Partial Pressure, Mojito, Sharky - testament to the close racing in the fleet. Sharky eventually secured the 'best of the rest' title, although they were pushed hard by CHRU who put in a strong performance on Sunday to complete the podium.

Further back it was great to see the Universities of Edinburgh and Strathclyde sending crews. We hope to see even more universities next season, and with several student keelboat events on the Forth in 707s over the winter they could well be challenging towards the front as the rest of the fleet blows off the winter cobwebs.

Big thanks to Margaret, Paul and their team from PEYC for all their hard work on the committee boat at this event and throughout the season. They deserve huge credit for the role they play in the continued success and growth of the fleet on the Forth.
