The Murrays were fast out of the blocks to make sure their Norfolk Punt was entered for the Fernhurst Books Draycote Dash...

The first to enter this season's Seldén SailJuice Winter Series was Colin and Oly Murray in their majestic Norfolk Punt. Just minutes after online entry opened at www.sailjuiceseries.com the Murrays had registered for the first event of the season, the Fernhurst Books Draycote Dash, which takes place on the weekend of 17 & 18 November.

The Norfolk Punt enjoyed the light airs of last year's two-day event at Draycote, leading on the water although it was Andy Couch's Phantom that won overall. In fact Couch became the first person ever to win the Draycote Dash twice, having also crewed Tom Gillard to victory in the 505 at a windy weekend a few years earlier.

Now in its 10th Anniversary year and with a new title sponsor in the well-known mast maker Seldén, the ever popular Winter Series goes from strength to strength, typically seeing around 1,000 competitors compete each winter from over 160 classes since its inception.

With all events having a maximum capacity, and more events only allowing advance online entry, enter now to avoid disappointment. The Draycote Dash is one of those events where it's not possible to turn up and enter on the day, so make sure you get your entry in soon.

Draycote is also round one of the Winter Cat Series, followed later in the season by Datchet, Graham and Rutland. Multihulls are permitted provided they have no more than one crew on trapeze and their hulls and permanent appendages when rigged for sailing do not exceed 5.5 metres in length and 2.5 metres in width. Singlehanded Challenger trimarans are permitted.

The Draycote Dash is offering all competitors, as part of their entrance fee, 20% off all Fernhurst Books titles purchased at the event. With 130 titles to choose from, covering most watersports (sailing, swimming, diving, fishing, canoeing and surfing) there is something for anyone who likes being in, on or under the water! So do your shopping early for Christmas.

In addition to the main overall prizes, there will again be a number of special category awards and rankings, including:

  • GUL Top Lady
  • Sailing Chandlery Top Class
  • Youth and Junior
  • Trident Top Club
  • SpeedSix GPS challenge
  • Class specific (15+ boats)
  • Boat type (Fast Symmetric, Fast Asymmetric, Slow Symmetric, Slow Asymmetric)
  • Family Prize
Here are some more facts on the Series:

MAKE IT YOUR CLASS WINTER SERIES
Last year a number of classes scheduled the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series as a key part of their calendars, with SailRacer producing class specific extracted results. Any class interested in their own Winter Series as part of the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series, please contact Simon Lovesey @ SailRacer, with class prizes for any achieving 15+ entries. Last season saw xx classes with entries over 15 boats.

FOUR OUT OF SEVEN
The same seven events are back from last year's Series. Once again, you must count your best four results from these seven events. Of course, you're welcome to enter and compete in as many events as you like - all seven if you're big enough to take on the challenge. This will give you more shots at getting a set of four good scores to put on the board.

Entry for the events is now open at www.sailjuiceseries.com
