Lymington Town Sailing Club hosted the first race in its Sunday Early Points Series on Sunday morning with victories going to Kevin Podger & Heather Chipperfield in class one and Nick Simmons & Alex Hayman in class two.
Highlights of the morning's racing is available in the posted video below. For extended race footage of yourself in action, please contact the team at .
Having followed on from the 'beast from the east' and its snow blanketing the UK, Sunday morning was a huge contrast. The snow had melted and vanished by first light, leaving sunny skies for brief periods and a strong breeze. With the exception of the cool temperatures, conditions were about as good as they could possibly get for this winter.
Class one, with one entrant on rib duty and two others retiring, was a relatively straight forward affair. Podger & Chipperfield led the way in their RS400 "Trotters" with Giles Chipperfield following behind both on the water and on handicap. The D-One was just ahead of Richard Lilley who took third in the RS700.
There was a little more action in the division for class two and three. Karl Thorne had a nightmare start in the RS Aero 7, snagging the first mark right in front of the SCJ camera, before close racing broke out between most of the fleet.
Nick Simmons and Alex Hayman got a good start and pulled out a small gap away from Richard Russell & Dan Bird in the Tasar. The latter pair would be passed by John Cooper & Becci Wigley but the corrected handicap times meant that Russell & Bird secured second.
Shaun Welsh wins the award for save of the day, managing to avoid a capsize right in front of our cameraman on the final lap.
