Nine top events scheduled for the 2018 National 12 Gul Series

The National 12's generous sponsorship by GUL continues into 2018. As well as winners on the water, prizes are also available for newcomers, families, cadets and older boats.

With a range of waters and location the 2018 GUL series offers something for everyone. So check out the events below and get them in your 2018 diaries!

  1. Burghfield SC
    When? A one day event on 17th March to get the season started.
    What? A sprint championships, meaning lots of short races during the day, giving a chance to fine tune and get lots of starts in!

    Burghfield SC is also easy to get to just off the M4.
    Top Tip: Look out for online discounted entry and when you're there the islands!

  2. Trent Valley SC
    When? 15th April - one day.
    What? Trent Valley is based on the river and offers competitive sailing for all types of National 12, from the vintage to the double bottomed and foiling varieties.

    Top Tip: Leave some room for the delicious cake after sailing.

  3. Salcombe YC
    When? 5-7th May - Bank Holiday weekend.
    What? Beautiful estuary sailing on the Salcombe estuary. A late start on the Saturday and an earlier one of the Monday allows time for travelling. Two races on Sunday with pasties on the beach.

    Top Tip: Bring some money for ice cream!

  4. Shoreham SC
    When? 19-20th May
    What? Exciting sea sailing, with a friendly welcome from this south coast club. Easy and sheltered launching.

    Top Tip: Dust off the compass and get some practice in for the Champs.

  5. Royal Harwich YC
    When? 14-15th July
    What? A 12 estuary favourite on the east coast, fleet racing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with a pursuit race on Sunday morning.

    Top Tip: Free camping available on site - bring the tent!

  6. Brixham YC - Burton Week
    When? 18th - 21st August
    What? The Biggie - The National Championships, with prizes across the fleet, competitive racing each day and a range of socials including the much loved Burton dinner.

    Top Tip: Brixham is a popular south west destination, with lots of accommodation options but for a prime choice start looking early.

  7. Solway YC
    When? 22nd-23rd September
    What? Enjoy a mixture of estuary and river sailing on the Scottish Solway Firth.

    Top Tip: Remember which way you're going for the Palnackie Race - the river has some big bends!

  8. Ripon SC
    When? 6th October
    What? A family favourite and a great opportunity to enjoy Yorkshire's finest inland sailing.
    Top Tip: Stay for Yeadon on the Sunday and make a weekend of it.

  9. Northampton SC
    When? 3rd-4th November
    What? The season finale and Inland Championships. Great reservoir sailing, prize giving, disco and fireworks: Northampton's has it all.

    Top Tip: Don't forget your hat, scarf, gloves and a firework.

Hosts Northampton provide two new local teams to join the fun This event was the last in the Dinghy Shack 2023 series; the Saturday counted for the Dinghy Shack series, and the whole weekend counted for the inland championships. One team suffers from 'a series of unforced errors' Alan Mason & Phil Gibson were the first in the dinghy park, getting the Sparklet 2066 rigged while the race team sorted out the rescue boats.
