Are you getting restless and crave an early start to the season? Why not join us at Shotwick Lake for our Brass Monkey Open Series running for 5 weeks from 4th February to 4th March. There is just one race every Sunday starting at 11am. We have a mixed handicap fleet from Optimists to Fireballs and use average lap times to ensure that everybody enjoys a good race.
Shotwick Lake is situated on the edge of the Dee estuary and is ideally located to get the best of any wind, whatever direction. It is also convenient for travelling from North Wales and the North West England.
Last year the event was won by Dave Turtle and Gareth Morris (GP14) closely followed by the D-Zeros of Gordon Bennell and Jeremy Cooper, all from the home club. However, it was Gordon that dominated the recent Frostbite series with Paul Newman (Streaker) and Joe Sergeant (Laser Radial) taking the remaining podium positions. In fact the Frostbite, sailed before Christmas, had a bumper turnout of over 35 entries with visitors from Chester, Gresford and Port Dinorwic Sailing Clubs. So with many of the visitors threatening to return, it could be an exciting series!
The racing format is just a single race starting at 11:00hrs with hot drinks available (sorry, no food) after the racing.
We welcome any monohull dinghy and the entry fee is just £10 per boat (£5 for juniors) for the whole series and this includes berthing so there is no need to transport your boat each week.
