Allen & PA Consulting RS Feva Worlds in Medemblik - Day 2

Day 2 of the RS Feva World Championships presented by PA Consulting and Allen Sailboat Hardware started with an AP Flag. The sun was out but the breeze was not.

AP was soon follow by AP over 1, then AP over 2, then AP over 3 and finally AP over 4. The RS Feva sailors clearly enjoyed their time chilling out in the boat park but were glad to get afloat when the flag finally came down.

177 boats from 18 nations took to the water in fantastic sunshine and light air, in anticipation that the breeze would build in the afternoon. For about an hour the sailors chilled out in rafts around support boats. Finally the breeze arrived and the last AP on board the committee boats was lowered.

True to form the PRO wasted no time in getting the first start away. In shifty conditions the day was going to continue to frustrate. A big wind shift and some over-keen starters lead to a general recall in the first race.

Finally the Yellow flight was under way and heading up the beat with the Blue fight starting behind them. As the leaders in the Blue fleet reached the windward mark the race was abandoned due to a massive wind shift. Unfortunately the second race of the day had the same fate.

As the breeze continued to build the third attempt at getting race 4 completed was successful with all three flights completing the course. After over four hours on the water the PRO abandoned for the day marking the end of the qualifying series.

Race 4: Yellow Flight was won by ITA6156 Filippo Cestari/Davide Carbonelli, Blue Flight by CZE5707 Jakub Dobry/Tereza Dobra and Red was NZL6896 Eli Leifting/Rose Dickson.

At the end of qualifying Eli Leifting/Rose Dickson from NZL will start Gold fleet on 1 point, but this World Championships is still wide open and truly international.

As the sailors finally came ashore end the end of a tricky day there were many tired young faces, but a good night's sleep will ensure all sailors are ready to battle out in their fleets as the busy end of the championship starts.
