November 2005
A look back at a dramatic year in the history of the America’s Cup as the new-format Acts series lavished the Cup racing with attention. And who better to talk us through it than the man who brought the cup to Europe, Alinghi billionaire, Ernesto Bertarelli?
Seamaster Sailing’s Ellen MacArthur reports from Le Havre, France just before she sets off on her next battle with the ocean on the famous doublehanded Transat Jacques Vabre race to Brazil.
The doublehanded ocean-racing format has never gone round the world before – Seamaster was there as MacArthur launched her brand-new venture – The Barcelona World Race.
Many ocean-racing legends, including MacArthur, have cut their teeth on the Mini Transat – a dash across the Atlantic in tiny boats – and 2005 was a classic as 70 boats set off on this career-defining race.
Plus this month Seamaster was inspired as we met South African Cup sailor and newcomer to the grand prix circuit, Solomon Dieppere.
