The RS Class Association will be running three RS200 youth coaching series for sailors aged 14-22 across the country this Winter, part funded by the RS200 Class Association and RS Sailing.
The Northern Youth Squad enters its second year, with coach Adam Savage. New for 2017 are the Western Youth Coaching series with Pete Vincent and Southern Youth Coaching series with Niki Birrell, where adult-youth pairs will also be welcome.
As the UK's most popular adult double-handed dinghy, The RS200 is an exciting alternative to skiff or single handed sailing for youths. There is superbly competitive big-fleet racing at the top end, with Olympic level sailors frequently taking part in Championships such as the recent Volvo Noble Marine Nationals at Mounts Bay, but also five active and well-attended regional tours covering the SE, SW, North, East and Scotland, which while competitive are also extremely welcoming and cost-effective for young sailors new to the class. At the recent RS200 Inland and Youth Championships, 14 of the 50 boats registered were all youths or juniors, with many more adult/youth pairs. Youth Champions Will and Matt Taylor placed 3rd overall, behind Endeavour hopefuls Christian Birrell and Holly Scott and Matt Mee/Emma Norris.
Latest details of all the dates are on the class association events calendar, with a summary on this poster. Sailors are being urged to enter early to secure their places.
