Competitors in the Late Summer Series of races at LTSC, supported by Harken, set off on a beautiful sunny day, with an ebbing tide and a westerly wind of 17-26 knots, producing boisterous conditions, but not too much to prevent four Finns from Keyhaven sailing down to join in Race A.

The fast fleet sailing a windward-leeward course, using moveables, to starboard with 4 laps which was shortened to 3. The race winners were Geoff Havers and Jo Barriball in their 29er, followed by Giles Chipperfield in his D-One and in 3rd Richard Lilley in his RS700. The medium fleet used 'Walbank' as its upwind mark, then they followed marks gybing down to the leeward mark. The extra gybes proved particularly challenging for the five Merlin Rockets that had come out to race. Tig Williams and Pete Conway came first in their 420, followed by Richard Russell and Sylvia Weger in their Tasar and Luke and Emma McEwen claiming 3rd, having changed mounts from their twin trapeze RS800 to the smaller hiking RS200 to get in some practice ahead of the Endevour Trophy (champion of champions event at Burnham) next month where they will also be joined by LTSC's Dave Ellis.

Following a fair number of capsizes along with a few gear breakages a much reduced fleet stayed for race B, the fast fleet sailed the same course but with the rounding changed to port. Giles Chipperfield moved up to 1st in his D-One with Richard Keeton coming in 2nd in his RS700. The medium fleet had a shorter triangle course for race B. In joint 1st was Neville Herbert and Karl Thorne in their Merlin Rocket and Luke and Emma McEwan in the RS200, followed by Richard Russell and Sylvia Weger in their Tasar.

LTSC is pleased to advise that entries are now open for the 2016 Solent Circuit keelboat event. Which takes place every Sunday morning from 9th October to 20th November. For further information contact the Sailing Secretary at sailing@ltsc.co.uk or on 01590 674514.
