Leader Open at Milton Keynes Sailing Club

by Jane Wharmby on 4 Oct 2005 1-2 October 2005

The Leader fleet ended the 2005 open series season on a high at Milton Keynes SC on 1-2 October 2005. Perfect sailing conditions, bright sunshine and 7 visiting boats all contributed to a very enjoyable weekend’s racing.

In the first race on Saturday, father and daughter team, Andy and Ruth Hobson (Hickling Broad SC) led the fleet for almost the whole race but were overtaken during the last lap by Mike Fitzgerald and Tim Dormer (Dell Quay SC). Local team and National Champions, Chris and Jane Wharmby were third.

In Race 2, Roger Morse and Ashley Smith led the first lap but were overtaken on the second beat by the Wharmbys and Fitzgerald/Dormer who went on to take 1st and 2nd positions. Mike and Val Sherwen (Deben YC) also came up through to take third place.

Race 3 took place in lighter winds on Sunday morning and saw the Hobsons extend a significant lead to take 1st place with the Sherwens 2nd and Wharmbys 3rd.

All change again in Race 4 when the Wharmbys came in first, followed closely by Richard and Chrissie Morris (Melton Mowbray SC).

The final race was won by Mike and Val Sherwen, with the Wharmbys 2nd and Ashley Smith and Roger Morse 3rd.

This was just enough to give the Wharmbys the overall 1st position with the Sherwens only 2 points behind.

Chris and Jane Wharmby were also overall winners of the 2005 Open Series, with Andy and Ruth Hobson 2nd.

Overall Results:
