Osprey National Championship at Mumbles Yacht Club - Day 3

by Alan Henderson, Osprey Class Association 14 Aug 2016 08:08 BST 11-14 August 2016

Mumbles Yacht Club kept the Osprey Nationals on a roll with the third successive day of the full programme of races in good sailing conditions. Bright sunshine added to the more benign wind conditions, starting at 10 kts for the first two races, while the third race included some passages of very light winds, as the breezes waned.

There have now been eight races sailed in the Championship, with another two scheduled for tomorrow, and the leaderboard is tightening. All three races today had different winners, as competitors struggled to make sense of the shifty breezes.

Championship positions have tightened today, with Edwards and Bowers now only two points ahead of Curtis and Greig, while Cooney and Frith are lurking just a point further behind, setting up a very close contest for the Championship tomorrow in this very competitive class.

Youngest competitor today was 13 year old Jack Cawsey-Williams, who had the chance to sail with the eldest competitor, 73 year old Willie Crichton. They enjoyed sailing one of the brand new Mark V Ospreys.

The Osprey Class are grateful to the following sponsors of the 2016 Osprey National Championships; Hartley Boats, Allen Brothers, Seasure, Clamcleat and Rain & Sun Covers.

Results after Day 3: (8 races, 2 discards)
