Hannah Snellgrove wins third national title

by Alex Barnes & Chris Hughes 13 Aug 2016 00:13 BST 6-12 August 2016

Lymington's Hannah Snellgrove won her third UK National Laser Radial title on Thursday afternoon at the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy.

Highlights of the racing on Thursday for the Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 championships are available in the posted video.

Two victories for Snellgrove saw her successfully defend her national title with a day to spare with two victories in Portland harbour.

Following the day's racing, Snellgrove said that competition had been "really fun".

"It's great (to have won a third title). It's really nice. Last year meant a huge amount to me because there were a couple of people there who I really struggled to beat. Guys like John Emmett, who is coaching in Rio, and my training partner Ben Elvin, so last year it was really special."

"However, triple champion sounds nice, so I'll really enjoy this."

"My legs are less happy after five days of hiking so it would be a lie to say that I am as fresh as a daisy. It was pretty physical out there but it was really shifty as well so I know it became a mixed day for some people. It wasn't just a case of having to work hard."

"A few people have asked if I'll sail tomorrow (Friday) and the answer is of course I will. I am a sailor who likes to be sailing so I'll be going out to try and win again. It'll be nice to only be counting firsts at the end of the competition. I'll take that as the aim going into tomorrow."
