Media pundits like to predict the winner of a sports event, be it golf, tennis or anything else, before it has taken place. More often than not they are wrong. But with Frensham Sailing Club's annual event for 2.4 keelboats the result is never really in doubt.

The seven times winner of the cup is Megan Pascoe, the world champion of the class. She had won the event previously seven times. However this time local sailors thought they could be in with a chance.

At some periods the lake looked like a sheet of glass. A light southerly wind came and went shifting direction all the time. Although Megan had to fight harder than usual and was not always leading she won five out of six races and could sit out the last one.

Second place also went to a visitor, Iain Stowe from Rutland. A good performance for the home club was from Bruce Hill. Bruce normally a heavy weather expert did well in the conditions.

Interviewed after the racing, Megan said. "I love coming to Frensham. It is always a challenge and you are all such nice people." She recalled that the event was something of a family affair as the first winner twelve years before was her father, Sam Pascoe.

Club Vice-commodore Stefan Bennett presented the prizes and the cup to Megan. He thanked the race officer Dan Shaw who had to work in such difficult conditions. Then everyone enjoyed the eats at the famous Frensham post-race free tea.

Overall Results:

1st Megan Pascoe (Weymouth)
2nd Iain Stowe (Rutland SC)
3rd Bruce Hill (Frensham)
4th Steve Bulmore (Frensham)
5th Richard Smallwood (Frensham)
6th Peter Gregory (Chipstead SC)
7th Nick Cook (Frensham)
