The World Championship for the Tornado Sailing Class, a former Olympic class, will be held by the Lindauer Segler-Club as organizer from the 10th-17th June 2016 on Lake Constance.

32 teams, including some of the world's best sailors from over 11 nations have already signed up one month before the event starts.

The sailing area, in front of the Isle of Lindau has already proven itself to be suitable during the German Tornado Open in 2010, and is kept in good memory by all sailors ever since. The breathtaking scenery of the Swiss-Austrian Alps in the south and medieval island silhouette of Lindau north of the race course have left a deep impression on all competitors.

This time however the starting field will be international; sailors from New Zealand, Australia, Greece, United Kingdom, Spain, France and Poland, all absolute experts in their field. some of them even former Olympic athletes.

The Tornado class is without any doubt one the most spectacular classes of the sailing world, whether you are only observing or actually sailing in the the regatta, a speed and adrenalin rush is guaranteed.

The Tornado is a multihull sailed by a crew of two people, measuring 6.1 metres in length with a sail area of 23,80 m2 upwind. The Tornado was an Olympic class boat from 1976 until 2008.

Noteworthy amongst the field are:

Roland & Nahid Gäbler #GER1
The bronze medal winner from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, together with his wife Nahid, both reigning world champions of the mixed Tornado class will be sailing during the competition in Lindau.

Iordanis Paschalidis & Konstantinos Trigonis #GRE7
The winners of the open class World Championship in 2015, this team from Greece will be starting as well. The five consecutive time world champions have participated several times in the Olympics and are undoubtedly serious title contenders for the 2016 championships.

Veit Hemmeter & Nico Lutz #GER5:
The 'hometown boy' from Lindau, winner of the Tornado German Open 2010 and multiple winner of the night regatta 'Rundum' (roundabout) Lake of Constance with his crew.
