Y&HYT & NEYT Event at Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club

by Steve Chilton 27 Apr 2016 08:45 BST 23 April 2016

Yorkshire Dales SC was the first of the new joint Y&HYSA and NEYTS events held on Saturday 23rd April.

The weather forecast was not good, but we were lucky, anyone who did not turn up because they thought the conditions would be poor were very wrong and the competitors had a really good sail. Everything about the club its facilities the water were brilliant, race management was good, really top notch completion with each race having a different winner.

Race one started with the sailors choosing the left side of the beat being lifted to the top mark and those going to the right finding no lifter and losing out. Race one was won by Peter Owen sailing a laser radial, in second place Emma Clayton and Faye Caswell, in third place James Tulley.

Race two started after lunch everyone rested and rearing to go. The wind was still fairly constant but with some big shifts made predicting the beat difficult. First in this race was Harriet Lee sailing a Laser 4.7, second was James Tulley, third Peter Owen.

Race three looked as though the wind was going to strengthen, but luckily it held off until they came ashore. As this race was back to back with the second race there was a little confusion what the course was. Some sailors had clearly not copied it from the committee boat and deviated somewhat from the correct course, parents being heard saying now where's she going! In first place was Ellie Clark crewed by Katie Scott sailing a Feva XL, second Harriet Lee, third James Tulley.
