Llandrillo College Marine Technology Department (Part of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai) Letter of Appreciation for RYA Big Weekend

Several of the students on our City & Guilds Level 2/3 Marine Engineering courses at Llandrillo College in Rhos-on-Sea, North Wales recently attended the RYA Big Weekend held at Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre, Bangor. The college ran a workshop on winterisation/de-winterisation of outboard and marine diesel engines which was very well received along with others as diverse as spinnaker handling techniques, race management, meteorology, sailing fitness, social media and video promotion and navigation amongst many others.

On the Sunday, there were a wide range of on-the-water activities available covering most aspects of dinghy sailing, rough-water handling for powerboats, yacht man-overboard training, windsurfing, displacement boat handling, a safety-boat refresher and race mark laying. A particular highlight was the opportunity to get onboard the Porth Dinllaen all-weather lifeboat which also provided the appropriate sea-state for the rough-water handling, safety-boat and man-overboard sessions by judicial use of its spectacular wash!

The weekend was also attended by many involved in various disciplines within the industry. It was very well organised, thoroughly informative and enjoyable and led to many networking opportunities. We look forward to being involved again next year!
