Allen Brothers has announced it is to sponsor the 2016 505 Worlds at Weymouth and Portland. The Worlds regatta program begins with the UK Open Championships on the 27th and 28th of July as a 'warm up' regatta, with the nine race World Championships, starting on 30th July and as equipment sponsor, Allen Brothers will provide technical and product support for the competitors as well as.
Liz Adams, MD of Allen Brothers, explained, "The 505 is an exciting, high profile racing class which shows off the benefits of our hardware perfectly. There are lots of ropes and blocks on a 505, but as well as being a technical boat they are spectacular to watch. We are delighted to be supporting great racing from great boats and crews at a great venue. Combining classic designs and leading edge innovation, sums up what Allen is all about."
Roger Deane, Event Organiser and UK Class President, added, "This year, the inaugural inclusion of "Classics" into the competition, brings added interest to 5O5 enthusiasts, but the main event is going to be the ferocious competition between multiple contenders. Current & double World Title holder Mike Holt will be chasing 3 in a row at Weymouth, while Mike Quirk from Australia (crewed by Luke Payne) will be out to prevent that happening. There will be several others of almost equal standard who will be determined to outclass Mike, such as Ian Pinnell U.K. (World Champion 2008) on his home waters: Jan Saugmann DEN (World Champion 2007 & 2012), Andy Smith U.K., Wolfgang Hunger, GER (5 times World Champion), Mike Martin USA (World Champion 2009) and of course Howie Hamlin USA (World Champion 1999 and 7 times 2nd place)."
The International 505 is a one-design high-performance two-person monohull planing centreboard dinghy, with spinnaker, using a trapeze for the crew. While it is a high-performance boat and demanding in a blow, the 505 is an extraordinarily well-handling craft and is easier to control than many smaller trapeze boats.
