Savills Commodore's Challenge Cup at Royal Dart Yacht Club - Preview

by Mark Ashton 7 Feb 2016 08:23 GMT 23 July 2016

As part of Royal Dart Yacht Club's 150th Anniversary Celebrations the club is hosting the inaugural Commodore's Challenge Cup in partnership with Savills the global real estate services provider as headline sponsor.

The Savills Commodore's Challenge Cup will be held in the waters off Start Bay on the 23rd July 2016 By invitation only, South West coast yacht clubs are invited to enter one or more teams comprising of three boats to compete in a fleet racing competition under the IRC rating rule.

A perpetual cup, the winning club will host the next event in their own waters and it is anticipated that this will become a well- supported permanent fixture on the South Coast's sailing calendar.

The Cup's aim is to encourage competitive and quality combined yacht racing amongst the participating clubs and it is hoped to promote the region to the wider sailing community.

Clive Bennet, Commodore of The Royal Dart Yacht Club said "this is a fantastic opportunity to launch a prestigious event to promote high quality sailing as part of our 150th Anniversary year"

"We are delighted to have Savills on board as the headline sponsor and look forward to a strong entry for this flagship event."

The challenge has ignited a competitive spirit amongst the participating clubs and event has been recognised as a prominent fixture on each clubs racing programme.

"We have some of the Country's finest sailing waters in the South West and what better way to celebrate this by bringing together some of the region's finest sailing talent at this inaugural event" commented Mark Ashton, Chair of the Organising Committee.
