Hayling Island Sailing Club will be welcoming back former members and current members to celebrate the club's 95th Anniversary in May 2016. The club is organising a weekend of sailing and social events for 7th & 8th May 2016, including Club Pennant racing, a 95th Anniversary tea party and Commodore's Drinks Reception.

Hayling Island Sailing Club was formed in 1921 with 120 members on a site at Mengeham Rythe; the first subscription was set at one guinea. The club moved to its present site at Sandy Point in 1936, and in 2003 HRH Princess Anne opened its current modern clubhouse. Since its formation, the club has hosted numerous National, European and World class championships as well as maintaining an exceptionally high caliber of club racing and open events. The club has played a leading role in British sailing encouraging innovation and development and nurturing many generations of sailing champions.

HISC has been home to numerous Olympic and World Champion sailors over the years and plans for the 95th anniversary weekend will include a unique display of HISC club memorabilia put together by the club's team of volunteer archivists. This will be selected from the Archive Collection which includes a vast amount of images, information and memorabilia.

Greg Lamb, Commodore of HISC noted; "We are hoping to attract a large gathering of both current and former members who have raced and sailed at the club over the years. We are encouraging people to make a weekend of the celebrations and participate in all or parts of the festivities including the Club Pennant racing, anniversary tea party, drinks reception and perhaps stay on for dinner with friends. The club has seen enormous changes in its 95 year history and we are keen to celebrate this. We are already working on plans to mark our centenary in 2021 and we hope that members and former members will use this significant 95th Anniversary to get in contact with friends and sailing partners as a precursor to events in five years' time."

Those interested are asked to contact the office at Hayling Island Sailing Club on +44 (0) 23 9246 3768 or email to find out more details about the planned events and book tickets. The office will forward any queries about HISC history to the team of Archivists.
