Harken 29er Grand Prix Round 3 at Hayling Island Sailing Club

Hayling Island hosted the third GP in the Harken series on the 10/11 of October. It started cold and cloudy, with little wind, quite different to that forecast, but with the usual Hayling tide. This made it an interesting day of racing with few teams being very consistent. Crispin and Tommy lead the first day with Dan and Nathaniel in a close second, counting two 1sts, and Arron and Billy in third. Other race winners included Bella and Ella and Bobby and Harvey.

Sunday dawned even colder. As the day progressed the sun came out and the skies were blue, but the wind strength was inconsistent and flicking in direction throughout the day which made the racing a lot harder. During the day race winners were Bobby and Harvey, Ollie and Jamie, and Tommy and Crispin. James and Ben won the last race of the day by a country mile.

The top two boats overall remained the same, both in contention for the win down to the last race. In the end Crispin and Tommy managed to stay just ahead of Dan and Nathaniel in 2nd. Bobby and Harvey took third place in front of Nick and Jake, with Arron and Billy in fifth and Elliott and Josh in sixth, also first juniors. First girls were Hannah and Emily in seventh whilst first mixed went to Jessie and David.

So it was a hat trick of Harken GP victories for Beaumont and Darling but they were pushed hard at Hayling by Venables/Gordon and Hewitt/Martin with race victories spread over 5 pairings. Harken GP 4 follows at WPNSA on 24/25 October.

Thanks to Harken for sponsoring the series and a shout out to Dan for turning 18 on Sunday!
