RYA Youth North Zone Championships at Ullswater Yacht Club - Preview

Ullswater Yacht Club is standing by for an invasion of the North's most talented young sailors this weekend. The club is the venue for the RYA Youth North Zone Championships on September 26 and 27 at which a total of 110 sailors in 96 boats will be taking part.
There will be four different fleets, the biggest is the Optimists with 39 entries. There is also fleet racing for Toppers – 29 entries, and RS Fevas, 14 entries, as well as a Regatta fleet for less experienced racers with 6 Toppers, 3 Optimists and 5 Teras.
On Saturday at 6pm the youngsters will also be able to hear an inspirational talk from world champion freestyle kayaker Claire O'Hara. Claire is the most successful female freestyle paddler of all time, winning a combined seven world championships and has just competed in the worlds in Ottawa where she once again secured gold.
Claire's dad Paul is a UYC member and Claire likes to spend time sailing with him on his cruiser when she is not competing all over the world in kayaking events. She will talk be sharing her experience, advice, tips and words of wisdom for succeeding at international level.
There will be a full catering service over the weekend for hungry sailors and families, as well as a fully stocked bar for parents. Camping is welcome on site at UYC for the weekend, including motorhomes. For more details visit the UYC website at www.ullswateryachtclub.org
