Abersoch at its best - glorious sunshine, clear blue seas, golden sand and the fine hospitality of South Caernarvonshire YC. The Nationals are running alongside Abersoch Mirror Week - one course inside the moorings with 2 'family friendly' short races a day - the other out into St Tudwal's Roads, with the majestic backdrop of the North Wales mountains!

Day 1 was spent of the beach with a fickle, shifting breeze never settling - so paddle boarding and sandcastle building became the order of the day. Day 2 however saw a fine breeze settle down in the afternoon and the Race Officer Chris Hoppin set the fleet out for 3 races in champagne conditions.

The results show a good mix of adults and juniors at the front of the fleet. Robert Richardson & Sandy Simpson from Royal Windemere YC followed up their very successful start to the season with a win in Race One, closely followed by Eleanor Keers and Izzy Pugh from Itchenor SC. Race Two saw P&B legend Dave Wade sail a great race with his daughter Imogen to win by a country mile, with Imogen Bellfield and Sarah Ewart Smith from Torpoint Mosquito SC / Itchenor SC heading a large pack in second. Sarah Richards and Douglas Simpson from Royal Lymington YC / Ullswater YC chose the right end of the line to lead the fleet round the course in Race Three with Eleanor Keers showing that a 13 year old can beat the very best adults.

Angus Hemmings and his daughter Florence from Stokes Bay SC lead the fleet after 3 races. With 5 points between 2nd and 8th the regatta is very close. The forecast for the rest of the week is for more wind and less sunshine - you can't have everything!
