PA Consulting Allen RS Feva Worlds in Travemünde, Germany - Day 5

by Frances Peters 24 Jul 2015 19:53 BST 18-24 July 2015

Sailors arrived for the last day of racing of the PA Consulting Allen RS Feva World championships 2015. Crowding around the score board, teams were doing rapid sums to figure out what was needed to fulfil their own goals for the week, while others looked doubtfully over the calm water wondering what the day would hold.

A delay on shore and a light forecast meant racing started to look unlikely. Then the wind came, 12 knots onshore and not a cloud in the sky. Some might call it 'champagne sailing'; Travemunde delivered! Jack Lewis and Lucas Marshall of Great Britain also delivered, taking the bullet for race 1 ahead of brothers, Fin & Dan Armstrong and all girl team, Freya Black and Hattie Cage.

The final race of the championship took place in 15 knots of steady on shore breeze. Still with tight points at the top there was a British battle for the trophy. It was not over until the final gun went as the difference between gold and silver came down to tie break.

In the end it was Iain Bird and Jake Hardman that took the gun and the title of PA Consulting Allen RS Feva World Champions 2015. After an overnight lead, the Armstrong brothers settled for Silver, while European Champions, Lewis and Marshall took bronze. Black and Cage (GBR) put in their best performance of the week, moving up to 5th overall and taking the all girls' trophy.

Simonas Jersovas and Vejas Strelciunas of Lithuania held on in the breeze and completed a successful week to finish 6th overall. Swedish team, Elin Nordin and Samuel Fredriksson went out with a bang, finishing 3rd in the final race and taking 7th overall. Meanwhile Mattia Zinetti and Davide Carbonelli of Italy, sailed consistently, slotting into 9th place overall.

It's been a fabulous week and sailors across the fleet have faced their own challenges, relished their successes and been energised by the incredible atmosphere that has filled the boat park. The RS Feva class owes huge thanks to our primary supporters, PA Consulting Group and Allen. The event could not have been the success that it was without their backing and both are partners that the RS Feva class are immensely proud to associate with.

A big thank you also goes out to RS Sailing for their tireless boat bimbling, repairs and spares service this week and Bolle' Sunglasses, who have provided excellent prizes for our winners!
