23 June 2015
Last Tuesday saw the tenth race in the Evening Race Series organised by the Island Sailing Club.
In light airs, four of the six classes has boats recalled at the start and in Class 1, four of these failed to return to start properly. Fifty-six boats came to the start line and all were sent on a two-round course starting to the East with the threat of a forecast failing breeze.
It was good to see eight XODs on the water, although one, unfortunately, suffered gear damage before the start and returned to her mooring.
With the wind failing to drop, courses turned out to be a little short but competitors approved of the buoy-rounding action. Finishing was hectic with, at one stage, eight boats crossing the line within 38 seconds.
There were two very close finishes, with Whooper (Giovanni Belgrano) beating Party (Claire Turner) by two seconds on corrected time in Class 1 and X 173 just holding off X 176 by four seconds.
