RS Feva Crown Cup - Day 2
by Frances Peters 21 Jun 2015 21:08 BST
19-21 June 2015
A chilly and damp start to the day in Lake Lipno saw very little wind and the race committee made the wise decision to hold on shore until a more stable breeze filled in. The sailors seemed undeterred by the rain and cold and appeared to make the most of every second spent on shore, playing on the grass by the water's edge.
Before long temperatures began to rise, the rain began to clear and a lovely westerly began to develop. Race 3 got underway in a building breeze with intermittent gusts coming down the course. Sailors had to work hard to spot the pressure and fight to be the first to reach it!
Jack Lewis and Lucas Marshall (GBR) fought their way to the front after a tricky first beat to take the bullet ahead of Jaroslav Cermak and Petr Kostal (CZE). Teammates Jakub Dobry and Tereza Dobra followed closely in 3rd.
Similar conditions in race 4 saw no change in the top 2 with the British team, Lewis/Marshall leading Cermak/Kostal (CZE) around the course. This time the Czech girls, Lucie Keblova and Aneta Palenickova took the 3rd spot.
The wind started to fill in more consistently for race 5, Sailors were able to gain more speed, especially on the downwind leg meaning they had to adopt a different technique. Lewis/Marshall (GBR) were un-phased and took their 3rd bullet of the day.
Meanwhile Dobry/Dobra (CZE) followed in 2nd, with Lithuanian team, Simonas Jersovas and Vejas Strelciunas slotting in a 3rd.
A day of many parts, the wind had dropped in time for the final start but pulses of breeze funnelled down the course meaning there were big gains and losses to be made. Dobry/Dobra continued there good form and managed to break Lucas/Marshall's winning streak to take the gun.
The British boys were not far behind, and Jersovas/Strelciunas (LTU) took another 3rd position. Meanwhile Russion team, Anna Rusetskaya and Linda Lantsewski took 5th position in the race.
Lewis/Marshall lead going into the final day with a 5 point buffer, while locals Dobry/Dobra narrowly hold off teammates Cermak/Kostal for 2nd place. Lithuanian team, Simonas/Strelciunas are hot on their heels in 4th. Four more races are scheduled tomorrow and there's a different forecast. Will the Czech teams knock the British boys off the top spot?
