Llandegfedd Sailing Club in Monmouthshire were delighted to host the Welsh Topper Championships in the new facilities since reopening in April.

A good turnout of boats from as far as Kent enjoyed close racing in a range of conditions in both the 5.3 and 4.2 fleets. After 6 races the 5.3 results were held in the balance pending a protest.

2013 Welsh Champion and GBR National Squad member Tom Renny emerged victorious but acknowledged the closeness of the 6 races and quality of the fleet. Tom was presented with the championship trophy and a 5.3 sail supplied by Topper International. English sailors Morgan Archer and Hakan Digby were second and third.

In the 4.2 fleet Welsh sailor Benjamin Jukes-Bennett showed his speed and consistency by taking 6 bullets. Jessica Roberts from Cardiff Bay and Llandegfedd sailors Seren Strong-Wright were second and third.

The competitors and the club were very grateful for the sponsorship of Stride Treglown, a sail from Topper International the support of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. Hopes are high for an even bigger event in 2016 now that the club is fully re-established.
