This weekend sees the RS Tera Northern Squad head to Leigh and Lowton SC for their final weekend of winter coaching.
It's been a wonderful winter for this very talented group of sailors, with a good mix of wind conditions and venues to keep everyone on their toes. This weekend looks like being the lightest wind we've experienced so all that learning about air flow and sail setting will be tested out as the fleet race against each other, and then as part of the club race series.
This is the second year a winter coaching squad has been run in the North of England and this year 3 of the Home Counties were represented in the squad with young helms from Wales and Scotland joining the northerners. A total of 6 weekends of coaching were delivered by the coaching team headed up by Brett Cokayne, with sessions held at Derwent Reservoir, Ripon and Leigh and Lowton SC's. The team thank the clubs for their hospitality and the very warm welcome they've given us.
Many of our Pro fleet have gone through growth spurts and are now moving on and out of the class, and will be putting their skills into practice in Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial dinghies this summer. Others are taking a double handed route and enjoying RS Feva sailing. A bright future beckons, and it's fantastic news for the ongoing development of sailing in the North of England.
