Alex Mothersele to coach at RS Feva SW Open Training Camps

by Sally Campbell, RS Association 28 Nov 2014 07:52 GMT 28 November 2014

We are delighted to announce that Alex Mothersele, RS Feva zone squad coach and runner up in the RS Feva Nationals, will be the lead coach for the RS Feva SW Open Training this winter.

Bookings have just opened for this popular series of 4 Winter Training camps being run collaboratively by Royal Torbay YC, Chew Valley Lake SC and Bristol Corinthian YC.

This training has been run successfully for a number of years and has helped Feva sailors gain the skills and confidence needed to take part in Feva open events, as well as progress to zone and National squads.

"The training will be open to all Feva sailors and tailored to suit the range of experience levels of the sailors who take part", said Mothersele "I shall be strongly encouraging my zone squad members to come along to get extra time in the boat and hone their skills."

There are four weekends in the series:

  • 10th/11th Jan - Royal Torbay YC
  • 30th Jan/1st Feb - Bristol Corinthian YC
  • 28th Feb/1st Mar - Chew Valley Lake SC
  • 14th/15th Mar - Royal Torbay YC
All sailors who complete at least 2 of the 4 weekends will eligible to join the class Invitational Training Camp at Hayling Island on 21/22 March 2015.

11 year old Abi Campbell took part for the first time last year, "The SW open training was my first time sailing on the sea in the UK and great fun," she says, "I made lots of friends in the class, who I've since met up with at events I've done at Hayling and Weymouth. The Invitational Training weekend at Hayling was amazing - I loved it all - sailing with the top Feva sailors, the massive squall where we all capsized and the fleet dinner with no parents allowed!"
